Beamish Museum

Beamish Museum is an award winning museum and is a recreation of life in the North East during the 1800’s and early 1900’s. A complete pit village has been created by dismantling original buildings from around the North East and rebuilding them brick by brick exactly as they used to be.

You can go down a genuine mine shaft, travel on an old steam train and visit original shops and farm buildings in the museums town.

Beamish is expanding and the centrepiece will be a reconstructed 1950s Town  meaning that alongside existing attractions depicting life in the early 19th and 20th centuries, the museum will once again include a period within living memory. Visitors will also be able to stay overnight in a recreation of a Great North Road coaching inn.

It is recommended to allow a full day to see everything. There is plenty to see and do for all the family.
